Paper Slitting Services

Precision Paper Slitting, Built to Your Tolerance.

Custom paper slitting from 0.5″ to 112″ wide, held to ±1/32″ width tolerance on every run. Contract paper slitting for manufacturers who cannot afford variation.

What Is Paper Slitting

Converting Wide Rolls Into Precision Widths

Paper slitting is the process of cutting a wide “parent” roll of paper into narrower, precisely sized rolls, then rewinding that paper onto cores sized for your equipment. It is the foundational step behind custom paper converting.

Manufacturers rely on slit rolls because their converting, packaging, or production lines are built around a specific web width. A roll that runs even slightly wide or narrow can cause waste, jams, or misfeeds once it reaches your equipment. If you’re preparing to specify slit rolls, our guide to measuring a paper roll covers the dimensions a quote is built from.

Precision matters most when paper feeds directly into automated equipment, when a narrow tolerance protects a sensitive surface — as with steel interleave paper — or when a safety-rated material must maintain consistent coverage width, as with fire resistant paper.

How It Works

From Parent Roll to Finished Product

Every order moves through the same seven steps, whether it is a single roll or a recurring production run.

Step 1

Receiving

Parent rolls arrive at our Beaver Dam facility and are logged into inventory before staging.

Step 2

Inspection

Incoming rolls are inspected for width, diameter, and surface condition before converting begins.

Step 3

Setup

Our team configures the converter to your specified slit width, core size, and roll diameter.

Step 4

Slitting

The parent roll is slit and rewound to your exact width specification on precision equipment.

Step 5

Quality Verification

Finished rolls are checked against tolerance — ±1/32″ width, ±1% length, ±1/2″ outside diameter.

Step 6

Packaging

Rolls are packaged to your specification: cradle packaging, individually wrapped, or blind shipment.

Step 7

Customer-Arranged Freight

Finished product is staged and ready. Customers arrange all inbound and outbound freight.

Precision & Quality

Tolerances That Protect Your Production Line

A slit width outside tolerance can cause misfeeds, jams, or coverage gaps once paper reaches your line. Every order we convert is held to the following tolerances:

  • Consistent width protects automated feed and converting equipment
  • Length tolerance keeps roll counts and yield predictable
  • Outside diameter tolerance keeps rolls running true on your unwind stand

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Paper Slitting Questions

What is paper slitting?

Paper slitting is the process of cutting a wide parent roll of paper into narrower, precise widths and rewinding it onto cores sized for your equipment. It is the core process behind custom paper converting.

How accurate are your slit widths?

Every order is held to a width tolerance of ±1/32″, with a length tolerance of ±1% and an outside diameter tolerance of ±1/2″.

Can customer-owned inventory be slit?

Yes. We support customer-owned inventory programs — we can hold your rolls and slit and release finished product on your production schedule.

What information is needed for a quote?

Material type and grade, required slit width(s), roll diameter and core size, quantity, and your packaging and timeline requirements. Our quote form walks through each of these.

Do you provide freight?

No. Paper Dimensions does not provide freight services — customers arrange all inbound and outbound freight. Your order is packaged and staged for pickup or your carrier.

What roll information should customers supply?

The parent roll's width, outer diameter, core size, and basis weight, along with your target slit width and any packaging requirements, help us configure the right setup for your order.
