Paper Rewinding Services
Precision Paper Rewinding, Wound to Your Specification.
Custom paper roll rewinding to the core size, diameter, and length your equipment requires — held to ±1% length and ±1/2″ outside diameter tolerance on every run.
What Is Paper Rewinding
Rebuilding Rolls Around Your Equipment
Paper rewinding is the process of transferring paper from an existing roll onto a new core — producing a finished roll wound to the core size, outside diameter, or length your production line requires. Where slitting changes the paper’s width, rewinding changes the roll itself.
Manufacturers rely on rewinding when the rolls they can buy don’t match the rolls their equipment can run. A press or converting line has hard limits: a maximum roll diameter it can lift, a specific core chuck size, a roll weight the unwind stand can carry. Rewinding closes the gap between the roll you have and the roll your machine needs. Our guide to the anatomy of a paper roll explains each of these dimensions in plain English.
Precision matters because a poorly wound roll causes problems downstream — rolls that unwind unevenly, telescope in transit, or come up short on footage force stoppages and waste. A properly rewound roll runs like it came from the mill that way.

How It Works
From Your Roll to the Roll You Need
Every rewinding order moves through the same seven steps, whether it is a single roll or a recurring production run.
Receiving
Your rolls arrive at our Beaver Dam facility and are logged into inventory before staging.
Inspection
Incoming rolls are reviewed against your order before any material is loaded on a converter.
Setup
Our team configures the rewinding line to your specified core size, roll diameter, and roll length.
Rewinding
Paper is transferred from the source roll and wound onto new cores to your target diameter or length.
Quality Verification
Finished rolls are checked against tolerance — ±1% length and ±1/2″ outside diameter.
Packaging
Rolls are packaged to your specification: cradle packaging, individually wrapped, or blind shipment.
Customer-Arranged Freight
Finished product is staged and ready. Customers arrange all inbound and outbound freight.

Quality & Process Control
Rolls That Run Right the First Time
A rewound roll is only useful if it behaves predictably on your equipment. Every order we rewind is verified against the following tolerances before it is packaged:
- Length tolerance of ±1% keeps footage and yield predictable across every roll
- Outside diameter tolerance of ±1/2″ keeps rolls within your equipment limits
- Cores, diameters, and lengths built to the specification you define
- Max Roll Outer Diameter
- 72″
- Length Tolerance
- ±1%
- Outside Diameter Tolerance
- ±1/2″

Typical Applications
Where Rewinding Solves Real Problems
Rewinding supports our own specialty paper lines and contract converting for manufacturers who supply their own rolls.

Core & Diameter Changes
Rolls rewound onto the core size your equipment requires, or reduced to a diameter and length your unwind stand can handle — including our Fire Resistant and Steel Interleave papers, wound to your specification.
View Specialty PapersCombined Slit & Rewind
Most orders pair rewinding with slitting in a single pass — a wide parent roll slit to width and rewound to finished cores and diameters in one setup.
View Paper SlittingWe also rewind customer-supplied rolls as part of our contract converting capability, for manufacturers whose material is already the right width but the wrong roll.
Why Paper Dimensions

Frequently Asked Questions
Common Paper Rewinding Questions
What is paper rewinding?
Paper rewinding is the process of transferring paper from an existing roll onto a new core, producing a roll wound to a specified core size, outside diameter, or length. It lets manufacturers match roll dimensions to what their equipment can actually handle.
How is rewinding different from slitting?
Slitting changes the width of the paper by cutting a wide roll into narrower rolls. Rewinding changes the roll itself — its core size, diameter, or length — without altering the width. Many orders combine both in a single pass on the same converter.
Can you rewind onto a different core size?
Yes. Changing core size is one of the most common reasons manufacturers send rolls to us. Tell us the core inside diameter your equipment requires and we will configure the order around it. Core options and detailed machine specifications are available on request.
Can you reduce a roll to a smaller diameter or shorter length?
Yes. Large rolls can be rewound into smaller-diameter or shorter-length rolls sized for your unwind equipment, with finished rolls held to ±1% length and ±1/2″ outside diameter.
What information is needed for a rewinding quote?
Your material type and basis weight, the source roll's width, diameter, and core size, and your target core size, finished diameter or length, quantity, and packaging requirements. Our quote form walks through each of these.
Do you provide freight?
No. Paper Dimensions does not provide freight services for rewinding orders, the same as any other order — customers arrange all inbound and outbound freight. Finished rolls are packaged and staged for pickup or your carrier.
